Dog health problems

The old saying that dog is a man’s friend is very true, however this is not Dr. Doolittle and your best friend cannot talk to tell you when he feels bad. Keeping your pet healthy and discovering any dog health problems before they get serious, is your job as a pet owner, and as your dog’s best friend.

Dogs, just like people can be subject to many different types of health problems. Dog health experts say that it is best to prevent than to try and cure, this is very true as well but you also need to know what to look out for with your dog health problems. Below are some types of problems your dog may face that he cannot tell you about, but that you should keep a look out for.

Just as in humans dog health problems can result from allergies. An allergy is a disorder of the immune system and just like you; your dog can develop an allergy to his environment or his food.
Dogs can also develop an allergy due to a flea or tick bite. Allergies of course cannot be cured but your vet should be able to give you something to keep the allergies under control. Some symptoms that your dog has an allergy included rubbing his nose on the carpet, runny nose, or hives and swelling.

Another dog health problem to watch out for is mange. Mange is the most famous skin disease that affects dogs. It is caused by mites living on a dog’s hair follicles. Although, every dog has these mites, dogs with a weak immune system usually end up with mange. The best treatment for the mange is to increase the dog’s immune system.

Other dog health problems that you should be on the lookout for include parasites, cancer, and bone issues. Cancer is a very serious disease in your dog, just as it is in humans. You need to catch it as soon as possible and get your pet in for diagnosis and treatment. Parasites such as heart worms can be just as deadly as can certain types of fleas and ticks.
To avoid these types of dog health problems you need to be vigilant and keep an eye on the pet that calls you his best friend, even if he cannot tell you so in words he will in actions every day of his life. Dog health problems are your responsibility to your pet, his responsibility is loving you.
