What to Avoid When Looking for a Dog Boarding Service

Finding the right kennel for your dog is crucial if you ever have to travel and can’t bring your dog with you. However, you should not choose the kennel that is the cheapest. It may wind up harming your dog. The popular YouTube channel Healthy Pets lists the warning signs of bad dog boarding kennels.

The first sign of a bad kennel is that they do not want to allow you to tour the facility.

You need to show up unannounced and see where your dog is going to be kept. Is it temperature controlled? Are there beds? Where will your dog be exercised?

If you are allowed to take an announced tour, pay attention to what you are smelling. If the place smells bad, it’s time to leave and do another unannounced tour at another kennel. If the kennel smells clean, ask what cleaners are used. Look them up online later to make sure they are dog-friendly.

Ask the kennel staff what kind of vaccination paperwork or health certificates are required. If they do not care about vaccines or certificates, then that’s another sign of a bad kennel. Your dog will be exposed to many other dogs. You cannot take the chance of your dog meeting an infected dog and getting very sick or even dying.
