Three Tips for Promoting Dog Health

Dog health problems

Are you interested in preventing dog health problems? If you are a dog owner and you love your dog, you should be interested in dog health. Getting proper dog healthcare means that your dog leads a happy, productive life. Neglecting dog health means that the dog, through no fault of her own, decays, mostly because of your negligence. Here are some basic tips to maintain dog health.

The first tip to maintain optimum dog health is to have the dog spayed or neutered. This does not so much help the dog itself, although female dogs do not have to go through child birth and nursing. Rather, this is part of a public health agenda. There are far more dogs born than can possibly be absorbed through the adoption system. A lucky few get adopted. Some dogs end up as strays. The majority of dogs are euthanized and cremated. This is a terrible fate to condemn dogs to through your negligence.

The second tip for optimum dog health is to control his or her weight. This is entirely in your power to do. While dogs have heart problems and respiratory problems that humans can get, they also get arthritis in their paws. Make sure they eat a reasonable amount of food, and limit treats. Never feed them table scraps, and forbid your guests from doing so.

Finally, make sure your dog gets proper veterinary care. If you cannot afford veterinary care, at least make sure your dog is up to date with his vaccinations. You do not want your dog dying of rabies, a terrible disease you can work to prevent.

There are other ways of promoting optimum dog health. However you do it, do not knowing imperil the health of your dog or of future generations. Negligence is not illegal, but it is certainly immoral.
